BHS Signs Agreement with UICR
Medical students and resident physicians from the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford can now get part of their training from Beloit Health System physicians thanks to a new affiliation agreement between the two organizations.
Since its founding in 1971, the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford has been committed to developing an optimal learning environment for training health care professionals that has included extensive community-based clinical experiences.
Under the new agreement, Beloit Health System physicians, who join the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford as community faculty, can help train the next generation of doctors as students complete rotations under their supervision in their clinical practice.
In addition to Beloit Hospital, Beloit Clinic, Beloit Regional Hospice and Beloit Cancer Center/UW Cancer Center and five other clinics in southern Wisconsin, Beloit Health System operates NorthPointe Health & Wellness and NorthPointe Terrace Assisted Living in Roscoe, Ill.
“This partnership with the University of Illinois is a great opportunity for our physicians to share their expertise with the next generation of physicians. Beloit Health System offers advanced facilities, such as the state-of-the-art NorthPointe Surgery Center, where students can fulfill surgery rotation requirements in a facility offering the latest technology,” says Timothy McKevett, president and CEO of Beloit Health System.
“The addition of first-year medical students at the Rockford campus this year brought our number of students up to 239 and we expect continued growth,” says Alex Stagnaro-Green, M.D., regional dean for the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford. “Partnerships such as this with Beloit Health System are vital to providing students the kind of education that can only come from experienced physicians guiding and mentoring them in their various specialties.”
The college’s department heads and clerkship directors will work collaboratively with the Beloit Health System clinical service chiefs to ensure faculty and medical student access to appropriate resources for medical student and resident physician education.
